Who needs a Chinese name?
All Chinese people have a Chinese name. Whoever is interested in naming principle can check out this article 【Get to know Taiwan】Interesting naming principle.
But who else should have a Chinese name? The answer is if you are a foreign spouse or their child/ren, Nationals without registered permanent residence and their child/ren, and other foreign nationals.
Some of the principles of picking a Chinese name are listed below but please check the attached photo for more information.
1. Surname first and then given name.
2. Only use Chinese characters that may be found in the dictionaries.
When you pick a Chinese character of your name, please ask what that character means, not just drawn by its look or shape. Once I saw a TV program showing Chinese character tattoo. A guy interviewed showed his tattoo "死" and said that he really loved the shape of that word but did not know its meaning. In Chinese, that character means "dead". In Chinese culture, it should not be part of a Chinese name.
Give it a try and hope you have fun.
