【Social focus】a baby abandoned by his minor mother

On July 30, 2015, the police received a report stating that a 16-year-old mother gave birth a few days ago and abandoned the baby at the bushes along the riverside. Later that day, the baby’s body was found.

While feeling sad about this deceased baby not given a chance to grow up, it also brought back my memory of a baby years ago. That baby was abandoned by her birth mother into a rice field. Luckily, someone heard her crying and called the police. She was sent to hospital for treatment right away. With all the parties’ working together along with the birth family, the baby was placed for adoption. Now she is a beautiful 7-year-old girl loving life.

In Taiwan, there may be still some taboo or criticism about “unwed pregnancy”, problem including the mothers themselves. But every life is valuable and has its own meaning. Even, the birth mother or the birth family cannot take care of the baby when he/ she is born, there are lots of agencies to provide assistance and support. The adoption agencies are the ones to find a forever loving home for these babies. So they can be given an opportunity to grow up and to enjoy life.

We do hope this kind of things will not happen again.
